Hi. I am Samita Chatterjee, a visual artist currently based in Mussoorie, India, and have mostly been painting the last decade or so.
I’d been visiting the Mussoorie hills over the years and whenever I would choke trying to walk up the hill like any proper city brat should, I comforted myself by staring at the hillside and the incredible diversity even a small square inch of the hillside held.
Eventually, after experimenting with a few different things, I found resin a great a way to capture some of this. (Or encourage the terrible human tendency to grab and keep whatever we find beautiful?).
I pick bits and pieces of plants while on hikes or when walking around for chores and try to preserve them with heat and/or Silica gel beads, and sometimes you will find some of the things I make on here.
Currently I make very small batches once in a while, and you can buy them either from the store here or from Mussoorie.
I have also been painting the hillside, and creating relief print works inspired by Landour/Mussoorie as part of this, which you can find in this page.
It all came under the name ‘Notes from Landour’ as a cheap imitation of one Dostoevsky novel.
You can follow my resin work on Instagram here, my drawings and paintings here . Or write to me at info@shroomtea.in
